Do you have Netflixia?

Netflixia is the affliction which causes you to rent a movie that someone recommends to you, or because it's a great "classic", but then you hold onto the movie forever without watching it, feeling guilty the whole time. If the guilt becomes too great, you cancel your subscription. You are a Netflictim.

  1. I suppose I'm too conscious of the expense of the subscription and of how many other titles there are in the queue that I really want to see to let Netflixia happen. I force myself to watch every disc within a day or two, even if I'm not in the mood. It helps to re-arrange the top of your queue often to suit your mood.

But I do sympathize with the woman who's had "The Deer Hunter" for 6 weeks. I supplement my Netflix subscription with movies taped off cable, and it was over 6 months before I could bring myself to watch "The Deer Hunter." (And then I hated it!) The same's true for "Platoon" and "Patton." These war-ish Best Picture winners bore me to pieces.

  2. I Love 'Plaid Pages'! I actually threw that out to the web master for the name of the site, however, what we are actually looking for is a name for the band, but thanks for the imput!

  3. I have gone back into my queue -after the first month - (or after ordering seasons of sopranos and realizing that I had to get each disk as one of my choices) and added variety into my mix. I'd breakup a season of sopranos with other movies in between.

  4. I had Animal House for about four months. And I LOVE Animal House. Seen it many times. Wanted to check out the new DVD, but for some reason I was NEVER in the mood to watch it. I'd always say, Tomorrow, tomorrow. What a waste.

  5. I have Netflixia,

I have been debating for several months on whether or not to cancel my subscription to Netflix. At first, it was the best thing that has happened to me in a long time.. the ability to watch several independent or art films that I know Blockbuster will never carry, in one weekend. It was great. But then, slowly, I would just ignore the discs or not watch them, especially with work piling up and long nights at the office, I come home and ignore my films sitting here.

Currently, I have out 5 films and I can only recall where 3 of them are. I need to go and do some serious cleaning and begin to send them back. It is cheaper than when I would go to blockbuster, and turn around is pretty great. It is just that I have lost all sense of time and time management to squeeze cinema into my life.

I am a victim of Netflixia.

  7. I feel for you. I, too, have Netflixia. I've been sitting on a couple of silent Russian films for a couple of weeks.

  8. I've been a Netflixer for several years now... (long enough to be getting 6 at less than the current 5 price). Suffered from Netflixia last summer... I had The Maltese Falcon (spelling it wrong?) for about 4 months! Was quick turn around on the other 5 dvds so didn't really feel like I had nothing to watch whilst I tried to force myself to watch that old classic. Finally watched it and fell asleep. Gave up and sent it back. Probably gave it a 5 rating just so I'd look sophisticated. Ha-ha!
