Still worth it

I'm paying $21.33 per month for Unlimited Streaming + 2 DVDs out at-a-time (Unlimited) and I think it's worth it. On the nights I don't have a DVD, I watch something from my instant queue. I easily go through two DVDs each week, and one or two instant titles each week, in addition to the weekly trip to the theater to catch the latest blockbuster or IMAX movie. I like watching older movies by streaming, like The Naked City (1948), because then the picture quality isn't compromised by my slow connection. Keep in mind, I haven't had cable TV since 2004, and because of Netflix, haven't missed it a bit.

I'm glad Netflix changed its mind about splitting up and moving me to Qwikster, but boy, was that embarrassing. I felt bad for Reed Hastings. What a miscalculation.

  2. I completely understand your affinity for movies, and your proud "cable-free" declaration, but I still have a need for live TV. I'm a big sports fan, however, and love my news. I have DISH network, and can now satisfy both of my media needs with DISH's subscription lineup (America's Top 250), and the recently-released Blockbuster Movie Pass. With this package, I have access to more than 100,000 titles, be they movies, TV Shows or Games. I also get an additional 20 HD movie channels to further expand my subscription lineup!! As soon as my boss at DISH told me about the Blockbuster Movie Pass, I was interested in signing right up. It's inexpensive, high quality, and I get the best of both worlds with great movies, and awesome live TV!!

  3. I don't do as much reading as I used to, but I read whatever chance I get.

  6. Netflix customer service is horrible. They dont care about us little customers they have way to much money to care about us. They just told me that if I dont like what they offer that I can cancel my account. Well since they have lost the stars content I dont like what they offer. Nothing like reruns that were not that good the first time around hence why they got them so cheap. They would not offer me a free upgrade or anything to keep me happy. All they can tell me is that they will be adding more items in the months to come well what about the interim??? We pay and get substandard service with no compensation. Greedy companys will fail.

  8. I'm still a long time Netflix subscriber, for anime in particular. I generally watch an episode every or two every night before I go to bed thanks to the Netflix Android App on my Droid 2(http://www.netflixandroidapp.com)

As long as they keeping adding new anime I'm in, but I suppose I'm a fairly niche market.

  9. I just wanted to stop by and say that I, too, think Netflix is still a great deal for your entertainment dollar...especially if you just stick with the instant streaming! Also I've started a Netflix streaming recommendations blog so if someone wants to jump over and get some great 'fan' recommendations, please do so at http://next-flix.com. Thanks!

  10. When Charter raised my rates on basic/expanded basic cable television plus took away two channels with a promise to force me to go digital with concomitant $5.99 per digital box rental per telly withing two years, we cancelled cable television and joined Netflix streaming. We still have the 2 DVDs at a time. We also joined Amazon Prime for the streaming.
However, in the last few months and particularly recently, the DVD service is unreliable and slow. We now only get about two movies per week because Netflix is not receiving the returned DVDs in a timely fashion. We send them back on a Saturday well within the pickup time at the post office. Netflix does not show them as being recieved until Wednesday or Thursday! I assume the lovely USPS is the culprit. Thus, I suspect the days of our continuing the DVD service is rapidly coming to a close after all these years. What was once a good, reliable and cheap way to rent DVDs is now simply unreliable and not worth the money. Even tho Netflix chooses to not stream an awful lot of movies, we can cancel the DVD service and pick up Hulu streaming at a cheaper price. I cannot believe what has happened to Netflix DVD service. It is really not even the money, but the unreliability of the whole DVD rental process now.
