Qwikster fan?

Not. Qwikster represents the beginning of the end of the DVD. DVDs are old school. I am a movie fan first and foremost. It doesn't matter to me how I get my movie fix. I was one of the first to buy a Roku box and get my Netflix movies streamed to my TV. However, I am one of those who will be moved to Qwikster, because I still have to have my movies on DVD.

The reasons I still want my movies on DVD:

Even with an HD TV and broadband, the picture quality is still better on DVDs most of the time. I admit this is probably my fault. It's cheaper to get DVDs from Netflix than to increase what I pay for broadband in order to possibly improve picture quality.

Of the 455 titles in my queue, only 176 are available instantly.

Optional subtitles, especially on English-language films. Try watching Trainspotting or The Hill (1965) or without them. Oops, bad example. The Hill is available only on DVD.

P.S. I'm still in shock as to Netflix splitting up. The name Qwikster makes me think this is all a bad joke and we're being pwned. It sounds like a mashup of Quitter and Flix. I thought about buying the name qwiksterfan, but I'm not going to do it.

  1. Really the blogging is spreading its wings rapidly. Your write up is a fine example of it.

    CCTV karachi

  2. agreed.
    their shares drooped 11%.
    that will teach greedflix.
essentially, most people want both, cause that is what they signed up for.
so they are charging almost as much as my cable now, for the same service i had for originally 8.99.
    f u netflix.
    u had this backlash coming.

  3. also, i only have a dvd player and computer. I HAVE to watch dvds. and yes, way more choices. all the crap movies or 1970's movies (not even all of them) are on instant.
what happens if you have only the streaming and your watching..lets say
you can only watch seasons 1-3 i think, then u have to order rest on DVD.
    they totally scammed everyone.
and they put blockbuster out of business, so i can cancel and go old school to a video store.

  4. Sorry a little off topic but

I have a new site that might be interesting for this group.

It allows you to find the best movies on netflix instant by sorting available movies by Rotten Tomatoes review scores.

If you like it please add a link for your subscribers. Thanks

  5. This could be the reason that Qwikster didn’t make it. I know that there are a lot of people that don’t want to deal with DVD’s and the fact that you have to wait. I use the Blockbuster Movie Pass, and now I can get unlimited access to all the games, movies, and TV shows I can handle. You can also stream to PC or TV which is an added benefit. I like that it’s the weekend and I finished a DVD or Blu-ray and want to get another movie, I just go to the local Blockbuster and get another movie. The Blockbuster Movie Pass offers unlimited in-store movie returns. This is only offered DISH Network where I work. New customers that sign up can get this free for 12 months.

  6. Watch this Netflix Commercial I did a year ago. Let me know what you think.
