My highest ranked friend

I've been checking out the new Community features on Netflix.com. Now our Netflix profiles include a ranking, based on how "influential" we are at using our reviews and lists to get other folks to watch more movies. My rank is 28,188, which isn't bad, considering how many millions of us there are. But then I saw my friend Walt D in LV, whose rank is 838! I have to get busy writing more reviews.

I met Walt through this blog. He is always sending us, his Netflix friends, interesting Movie Notes on everything he sees.

Here are the stats from his profile:

Member since June 2007
rank 838
72% similar to NetflixFan
19 friends
235 reviews
3 lists

Have you noticed your rank? What do you think of it?

  1. Hrm.

My rank is about 250k, and that's the highest of my friends. I am not sure how they calculate the rank. I don't write reviews, but I send a crazy amount of notes to my friends and I have rated about 900 films. I'd love to see a breakdown within the ranking of what has contributed to the rank.

It's an interesting feature. Netflix still has a long way to go before the community features are as streamlined as they ought to be, but I think they are on the right track.

  4. I can say that ratings make up a big part of the rank. Mine is 550.
I have 24000+ ratings and no reviews.

  5. Hey all, This is my first post on Netflix Fan. Love the blog. I'd like to make more Netflix friends.

As far as the rank and the community features: I think it is a great feature. I agree they have a little more work to do with it. The Netflix blog seemed to indicate the reviews and lists were major parts of the 'rank' I don't know. Mine was about 330 and then dropped back down to 729. I would like to have more friends because I prefer to leave notes than write reviews but I have started more review.

I’ll see you all around this blog more often.

    Cheers all!
    Matt
