Green Envelope Madness?

What's this? I had cancelled Greencine, but today, I got a green envelope in the mail. I thought they'd messed up. Turns out Netflix has Shrek-ified their envelopes. Raven at Netflix Odyssey blog had just complained about a Garfield ad on his, but at least the envelope remained the same color. Don't worry, I'm not freaking out or anything.

  1. So much for that "pure brand" Netflix had.

And I weren't exactly complaining about Garfield... just throwing out some commentary on how much Netflix has changed direction since that interview. Like I said, if it keeps costs down, I'm all for it. (Though they could have started with something more... tasteful... than Garfield the Movie.)

  2. Yes, they sold out.

    Thanks for clarifying.

  3. I might be upset at them 'selling out' if they hadn't just dropped their prices while still delivering the best service out there.

But that green envelope looks ugly to me. And I REALLY don't want to see a pic of CGI Garfield if I can avoid it.

  4. What this signifies is that the distribution industry recognizes Netflix's leadership. If we all want Netflix to maintain that spot, this is a good sign.

The only one with egg on his face is Reed Hastings, for making that "pure branding" comment and then switching courses so quickly. For what it's worth, I feel the Shrek envelopes still convey the Netflix "brand".

  5. There's at least three different versions of the envelopes. :)
