Longest Netflix membership?

When I blogged about my three-year anniversary with Netflix, tedder commented that they've been a member since April 2000. Can you beat that? I'd love to know who has had the longest continuous membership with Netflix. It's probably someone who works for them. If you've been a member since before April 2000, send me a link to your Netflix profile page to prove it. Thanks!

  2. I don't remember exactly when I signed up at first - it was in 1998 or 1999. I do remember that it was back when you could "buy" the disc you rented less the price of the rental, which was a cool feature that I wish they still had (it didn't seem to last very long).

I have canceled and re-subbed many, many times since then, however, so I don't much count for longevity.

  4. Your profile is on the Browse tab on the right-hand-side of the Netflix member home page. The link is called "your reviews and lists," under the heading of Guides.

    Dave, thanks for the address!

  5. I first signed up when their corporate ID was white/purple. DVDs were 3 something each to rent, and the selection was pretty much classics, soft porn, and new releases. If I remember correctly the mailers were cardboard.

  6. December 1999...I think it was called marquee program or something like that.

$15/month for 4 DVDs out per month.

April 2000. When I first subscribed, the system worked like this: they hit your credit card for $40 (?) which gave you credits in your Netflix account. You used the credits to rent movies. When your credits ran out, You used your credit card to buy more credits. The good thing was that you only paied for the movies you watched since there was no monthly plan.

Then when they switched over to the monthly payment plan, I too was grandfathered in at the 4-out plan and have been ever since.

  11. Well, I have been a member since April 2000. At the time, i think they were bragging that they had 7500 titles! Still, it was a lot better than the local stores.

When you put a movie in the mail, you checked it off on your queue as returned, and they sent you another one! I guess people abused that, so they waited until it was returned. It would take several days.

Another cool thing about those days.. a real person actually answered your questions and dealt with your problems.

  12. January 2000. You couldn't beat the availability - blockbuster didn't care about DVDs enough to stock many if any at all.
