Even though yesterday was a Postal Holiday (Columbus Day), I forgot, and put two Netflix in the blue USPS box on the street at work. Netflix checked both of them in this morning before 9 AM. They already have two more shipping today. I received 13 discs in September, on the 3-out plan.
I experienced the same thing. I dropped off a Netflix rental at the post office Sunday. Netflix checked it in this morning as well. I haven't seen service like this since my trial period. It only proves Netflix has been holding out on us the whole time.
ReplyDeletemaybe they only did mail pickup that day.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea. I'm stumped.
ReplyDeleteI can't explain the holiday collections (if they ocurred), but I can explain the mailed-on-Saturday, posted-as-returned-on-Monday-legal-holiday event.
ReplyDeleteMost volume postal customers don't have actual physical post office boxes which you see printed on return envelopes. What they actually are is 'caller box service', where a courier will collect all the mail for that address at a special window or--most likely, in the case of Netflix or a large bank's payment center--special loading dock at the hosting post office. Therefore, there may be a large amount of incoming mail that might have been worked (processed) on the previous mail day to the degree necessarry for delivery to a caller service customer and is therefore ready for them to pick up. Many post offices that have this service offer it outside of normal customer window hours--theoretically, anytime there are employees on duty. So, Netflix could pick up their returns on a legal holiday even though you or I, as casual customers, would have to wait until Tuesday or the next business day.
Of course, this 'convenience' comes at a hefty price. Most caller service is around $1000 per address per year, with additional fees for other services. But if you really want it, you too can subscribe to this service.
